The Karambi
sub-county NAADS coordinator Gregory Masereka has said that the successful
fight against the banana bacteria wilt will depend on the effectiveness of the
task forces set at village level.
Masereka
said this during the closure of a one day training workshop for LC One
chairpersons and other stakeholders on the control of the banana bacteria wilt
held at the sub-county headquarters on Thursday.
He said that
the BBW task forces at the village level in Karambi sub-county were effective
in fighting the disease when it broke out there in 2007.
During the
workshop, the participants agreed on a community action plan to control the BBW
that will use what was termed as “HARAMBE SPIRIT”.
The Harambe
Spirit will be a collective action against farmers who will not abide by the
technical directives towards managing their plantations.
The area LC
3 Chairman Martin Balitebya Masereka said it is high time the by-laws are enforced
on whoever sabotages the BBW control programs.
Balitebya
added that BBW control demonstration seminars be conducted starting on the
plantations of the participants.
END.
