POLICE INVESTIGATES ALLEGED MURDER OF A WOMAN BY THEIR OFFICERS



Investigations into the alleged killing of a 54 year-old woman in her garden allegedly by police officers in Butsumba-Muro village in Kasese Municipality yesterday has started.
Jostina Biira a resident of Kihara trading center was found dead in a garden after reportedly being killed by police officers guarding the disputed land claimed by Dan Bazira.
Led by the District Police Commander Michael Musani, police detectives visited the scene of crime to launch investigations into what might have led to the death of the old woman.
They were joined by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Aminadabu Muhindo and the Mayor Kasese Municipality Godfrey Kabyanga.
On reaching the scene the residents told police that the woman was killed by four police officers part of those routinely deployed at Bazira’s house to guard the land.
Dan Balibuga the son to the deceased who claims to have been in the garden together with her on Saturday afternoon, said the police officers in the company of a civilian employee to Bazira raided them and started torturing the old woman.
Balyebuga reported that with his two sisters ran away leaving their mother in the hands of the police who shot two bullets.  
The residents threatened not to allow police take the body for a postmortem test before arresting one of their own whom had been identified as one of those that attacked the old woman.
The DPC Michael Musaani who ordered the arrest of the identified officer asked the residents to stay calm as investigations and hunt for other suspects was on.
There were allegations that the police officers guarding Bazira’s home have been stealing cotton and maize from people’s gardens.
The Deputy RDC Aminadabu Muhindo asked the residents to cooperate with police by recording witness statements to help in bringing the suspects to book.
The bordy was then taken for postmortem before being handed over to the family for burial. END
